Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (50 grams) old fashioned oats
  • 4 cups (950 milliliters) milk
  • 1 cup (237 milliliters) water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional

Topping:

  • Ground cinnamon for garnish

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the oats, milk, and water over medium heat. Cook, stirring often- especially the bottom and sides, for 15 minutes.
  • Stir in the cinnamon stick, sugar, ground cloves, and salt. Reduce the heat to low and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, for another 15 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Stir in the vanilla extract and transfer to a covered container. Refrigerate until well chilled, at least 3 hours to overnight.
  • Remove the cinnamon stick and transfer the chilled drink to the blender. Puree until smooth. If too thick, add a little more water or milk.
  • Serve chilled with a pinch of ground cinnamon sprinkled over the top.
