Ingredients
3large eggs
1/2cup(118 milliliters) milk
1/2cup(118 milliliters) heavy cream
2tablespoons(30 milliliters) honey
2teaspoons(10 milliliters) vanilla extract
1/2teaspoonground cinnamon
1/4teaspoonsalt
8thick slices breadChallah, Brioche, or Shokupan, 3/4-1 inch (2-2.5 centimeters) thick
1tablespoon(15 grams) unsalted butterplus more as needed
1tablespoonvegetable oilplus more as needed
Optional Toppings:
Whipped cream or butter
Honey or maple syrupfor drizzling
Fresh berries
Powdered sugar or cocoa powderfor dusting
Instructions
In a large, wide bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, honey, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
In a large skillet, melt the butter and vegetable oil over medium-low heat.
Once the butter is melted and the pan is hot, soak one slice of bread in the egg and milk mixture for about 30 seconds per side.
Cook until golden, about 2 minutes per side. Adjust the heat between medium and low to create a golden color and thoroughly heated bread without burning.
Repeat with remaining slices of bread, adding additional butter and vegetable oil to the pan as needed.
Serve immediately with additional honey or maple syrup and desired toppings.
